Authentic: The Journey to Your True Self

“Life is a journey, not a destination.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

We are all born with the purpose of embarking on a journey on this earth—a journey to discover our true essence. Just like an airport with thousands of daily flights heading to different destinations, each person has their own flight to uncover who they truly are. However, few dare to take that flight, and many end up boarding the wrong one.

This leads us to one of life’s most profound questions: Who am I? That’s why the question, Who am I?, is one of life’s most challenging to answer. It’s a question that countless people struggle with—including me. For over 23 years, I wrestled with my identity. On the surface, everything seemed fine: I grew up in a loving family, earned a degree in college, and dedicated my life to God. Yet, despite these accomplishments, a deep sense of emptiness lingered. One question kept rising from within: Yoelvin, who are you?

Have you ever felt this way? Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, Who am I, really?Despite outward success or a life that looks good on paper, do you still feel like something is missing? You are not alone. These inner questions led me on a search for answers—a path that many others are also on. Through reading books like Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life, I realized that millions of people wrestle with the same uncertainty about their identity and purpose.

The Nature of Life

Do you know that around 170,000 people die each day worldwide? This translates to about 7,000 deaths per hour, 118 per minute, or nearly 2 per second. This stark reality reminds us that our time on earth is fleeting. Life is like a vapor—appearing for a moment and then vanishing. When we least expect it, our time to say goodbye arrives. What is truly sad in life is not death, but dying without discovering your true self.

Think about the cemetery. It’s more than a resting place for the dead—it’s a graveyard of unrealized dreams, incomplete purposes, and hidden potential. Businesses never started, books unwritten, songs unsung, and cures undiscovered are all buried there, forgotten. This is the tragedy of a life unfulfilled.

A Life Well-Lived

This reflection reminds me of my father’s life. Diagnosed with an enlarged heart at a young age, doctors predicted he wouldn’t live past his twenties. Yet, he defied those odds, living to the age of 48 after enduring three open-heart surgeries and receiving an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

Despite his challenges, my father didn’t leave behind a list of regrets. He embraced life fully, savoring every moment with gratitude. Instead of complaining about his life or blaming God, he was the most joyful man I ever met. I vividly remember celebrating our last Thanksgiving with him. He was so grateful for life, cherishing milestones he never expected to see—watching his children go to college and meeting his first grandchild. He taught me how to live with gratitude, treasure life, and value it to the fullest.

What This Book Offers

By clinging to the cares of this world, we lose sight of our essence, leaving buried the treasures God entrusted to us—treasures meant to shine and bless the world. That is why I wrote this book, Authentic: The Journey to Your True Self—to guide others in uncovering their essence and stepping into their divine purpose.

This book is not just my journey—it’s your journey, too. Writing it has been part of my own path toward authenticity. I know what it’s like to feel lost—to achieve external success while feeling empty inside. But by reconnecting with my true self, I found clarity, peace, and purpose. Now, I’m passionate about helping others find the same.

In this book, you’ll find personal stories, spiritual reflections, and practical exercises designed to guide you on a journey of self-discovery. Whether you’re a young adult finding your way or someone who feels unfulfilled despite success, this book offers tools to help you shed layers of false identity and embrace the unique essence the Creator has placed within you.

This book is structured into three sections:

  • Self-Discovery – You will uncover the layers of ego, false labels, and societal expectations that may have clouded your sense of self. Here, you’ll learn how to identify your gifts, understand the blueprint of your life, and address the spiritual poisons that may be affecting your life.
  • Awakening – This section is about awakening to your true essence and explores the three levels of perception: how you see yourself, how others see you, and how God sees you. Through this, you will begin to align your perspective with divine truth.
  • Connection – Finally, you will learn the importance of connection—connecting with your true essence and with your Creator. This connection ultimately allows you to walk in your authentic self, fulfilling the purpose that God has designed for you.

This book will take you on a transformational journey to rediscover your authentic self. Each chapter builds upon the last, guiding you step by step on this transformational journey. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or have been searching for years, this book is designed to meet you where you are and guide you to uncover who you are meant to be.

This is not just a resource—it’s a call to action. It’s time to peel back the layers, confront the fears holding you back, and discover your authentic self.
